PHILSA LEGACY TROPHY DESIGN

DESIGNERS / SHERYN BALDAS
CLIENT / FILIPINO STUDENTS ASSOCIATION (PHILSA)

OBJECTIVE

To create a trophy design encompassing the values of the Filipino Students Association (PhilSa), that can be passed down to the future years. The project is aimed to be design around the 'PhilSa Games 2025: Basketball Tournament' but is adaptive to any game or sport. The timeline, from ideation to completion, is two and a half weeks to complete. Three days to ideate and two weeks to build.

IDEATION

When discussing the mission and values of PhilSa with the executive team, I began drawing abstract ideas of what their message meant to me, alongside taking notes to bridge the terminology and values of 'community, sportsmanship and being Filipino-Canadian'. From abstract concepts to a tangible form, it became apparent that their vision was broad and relatively undefined (in terms of trophy design). I came to bridge that gap, and interpreted their values into four main concept ideations.

LEARNED OUTCOMES

It has definitely been a challenge to ideate, coordinate and execute a project in terms of the timeline, cost and expectation. Alongside the added network of approval and client work (such as iterations or feedback given), however this project allowed me to foresee and anticipate realistic expectations for future projects. Alongside the skills of management, group coordination and feedback.

SUCCESS AND FAILURES

Success was found in the anticipation of a timeline, ideation and producing the trophy within the allowed time. The winners were satisfied and enjoyed the ties to the 'Filipino-Canadian' identity, alongside the bold choice of an 'atypical' trophy design. Issues arose throughout the bottleneck of last minute feedback and changes, as well as the need to cut down the cost through every step.

Overall the execution and reward was well worth it, bringing in a new perspective of project management and anticipation for future projects.
